Dave and Dee approached us with the brief of ‘An English Castle Wedding’. We explored a few more traditional options and then found the gem of Oakley Court in Windsor. Its location and modern twist made it the perfect venue for the couple.
The expansive estate gave us 3 different locations for the wedding day. The ceremony was situated directly next to the River Thames. One of the main concepts was for Dave and Dee to seem as though they were ‘walking on water’ along the aisle, hence the fitting location. We explored the idea of having Dave arrive to the ceremony via boat, but this was quickly vetoed as we could not comprehend the possibility of the Groom falling into the Thames pre-ceremony. Instead, we had a bespoke waterfall structure built at the top of the aisle. This was paired with a mirrored aisle which was lined with water troughs. The combination of materials made the reflections on the aisle deceive the eye, as if the couple were truly walking on water.
The reception concept was a Dior-esque English secret garden. Dee adores the ‘Toile de Jouy’ motif, which Mr. Dior actually showcased on the walls of his first boutique. We pulled out the delicate imagery and trees from this design to feature in the reception design. We placed silver birch trees around the tables to immerse the guests in our ‘secret garden’. The centrepieces featured delicate English florals of varying heights and textures. One of my favourite flowers used were Cosmos, they are a gorgeous and seasonal English flower, which added so much interest to our overall look. The floral features paired with an ornate and pearlescent tablescape, and some atmospheric haze, created the perfect ambience.
For the final part of the day, we transformed the ground floor of the Mansion House into the ultimate house party. Different rooms were for different means, and the main party room had a club feel. The explorative experience was different to your typical wedding party and was greatly received by the guests.
